At Knox we’re still a family owned business with our headquarters and manufacturing facility based in the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria, UK.
We specialise in the design and manufacturing of innovative body armour and apparel, mainly for motorcycling but increasingly for other adrenalin sports too, like stunt riding, MTB, snow sports, and even equestrian.
We began in 1981 when our founder who still leads the business today, Geoff Travell, was a young British motorcycle racer and body armour just didn’t exist.

These days the company still focuses on what it does best; body armour, gloves and apparel. We are a dedicated and hardworking team, passionate about making great products that protect and enhance motorcycle riding. That dedication permeates throughout the company from management, design and R & D, production and operations, through to sales, marketing and distribution of the collection.
We source our materials from across the world to make a great product; from the tip of Australia for our merino wool and sustainable Kangaroo, Korea for our leather and the UK and Europe for many of our technical performance fabrics. We work closely with fabric companies who are experts in their field to engineer and improve fabrics so we can design ground breaking, new and innovative products and bring them to market.
As well as body armour, gloves and technical apparel, the company is also a major supplier of CE approved protection to more than 25 motorcycle brands of clothing. These include large brands like Roland Sands Design, RS Taichi, Kushitani, Indian and Rev’it! but also specialist brands like Helite air bags and PMJ jeans. Our latest armour development is Knox MICRO-LOCK protectors; these are the softest and most comfortable CE protectors we have ever made and have the added the benefit of being temperature stable across climates. This is really important for our customers who are riding all over the world. All of our protectors are CE approved and we still play an active part in the improvement of CE standards through our involvement in the European Working Group WG9.
What can you expect in the future? We are continually raising the bar on development and design to bring riders better products, that work in today’s busy world. This is spurred on by the success and support of our customers for products like the Knox layering system, the armoured shirt and glove collection.
